Title : A Story Which Converges

Date / Time : 19 June 2026, 13:40

Location : FENS G032

Abstract: Consider a finite family of curves, typically all curves of a given genus over a finite field. What can be said about the proportion of the curves in this family with a given number of rational points? This will be our starting point to explore some results of arithmetic statistics, from the very general framework of Katz-Sarnak established in the 90’s to a series of recent results pointing towards a more precise knowledge of the asymptotic distribution.

Bio: Christophe Ritzenthaler received his PhD in 2003. He was an Assistant Professor in Marseille from 2006 to 2013 and has been a Professor in Rennes since 2013. Since 2020, he has served as Director of CIMPA for the 2020–2028 term, and he is Chair of ERCOM for 2025–2027. He has also served as Editor and later Editor-in-Chief of the journal Foundations of Computational Mathematics since 2020.
