Questions on Your Mind
Sabancı University students who require academic or physical accommodations during their education due to a disability or health condition may apply to the Special Needs Student Support Unit.
For academic support and accommodations to be formally evaluated, students must submit an Adult Disability Health Board Report (Erişkinler İçin Engellilik Sağlık Kurulu Raporu – ESKR) issued by a healthcare institution authorized by the Turkish Ministry of Health.
Students who wish to benefit from special needs support services are primarily required to submit an Adult Disability Health Board Report (ESKR) to our Unit.
The ESKR must be issued by a healthcare institution authorized by the Turkish Ministry of Health. Previously obtained medical reports, discharge summaries, diagnostic test results, or other medical documents may be submitted as supporting documentation during the evaluation process; however, these documents do not replace the ESKR.
International students are also required to obtain an ESKR from an authorized healthcare institution in Türkiye. Medical reports issued abroad may be considered supporting documentation but are not accepted as substitutes for the ESKR.
Academic accommodations are evaluated individually for each student. Necessary arrangements for educational activities and examinations are determined based on the diagnosis, health condition, and individual needs documented in the student's ESKR.
These accommodations may include additional examination time, a separate examination room, classroom accessibility arrangements, or other academic adjustments appropriate to the student's needs.
When evaluating a request for academic accommodations, consideration is given not only to the student's diagnosis but also to their individual educational needs and the information provided in the ESKR.
Students' medical information and details regarding their diagnoses are not unnecessarily disclosed to instructors.
To ensure the implementation of academic accommodations, relevant faculty members and administrative units are informed only of the approved academic accommodations and the arrangements required.
Confidentiality and the protection of personal data are fundamental principles in handling students' health information.
Yes. All medical reports and personal health information submitted to our Unit are handled in accordance with confidentiality principles.
Information regarding a student's health condition is processed and shared only to the extent necessary to coordinate and implement the relevant support services.
Confidentiality of students' medical information is also carefully maintained in communications with academic and administrative units.
Yes. Students experiencing temporary health conditions, such as accidents, injuries, surgeries, or similar circumstances, may require short-term academic accommodations.
In such cases, students should contact our Unit and submit up-to-date medical documentation indicating their health condition and the expected duration of their needs.
Requests are evaluated based on the nature of the health condition and the student's academic needs, and the necessary coordination is carried out with the relevant university units.
The process for temporary health conditions is evaluated separately from the special needs support process for permanent or long-term disabilities or health conditions, which requires an ESKR.
The duration of academic support is determined based on the student's health condition and the validity period of their ESKR.
If the ESKR is issued with permanent validity, academic accommodations may continue for as long as the student's needs persist.
For time-limited reports, the validity period specified in the ESKR is taken into consideration. Once the report expires, an updated ESKR may be required for accommodations to continue.
Students are encouraged to contact our Unit if there are any changes in their health condition or academic accommodation needs. Accommodations may be reassessed and adjusted when necessary to reflect the student's current circumstances.
