VAVCD Seminar Series, Çağıl Harmandar (Artist)

This presentation explores animation practice as a research method within a PhD project, with a particular focus on the technique of straight-ahead animation—a process that involves animating sequentially without relying on keyframes or a predefined storyboard.
Çağıl Harmandar is an animation artist based in Tokyo, Japan. She received her BFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University in Boston in 2016. As a recipient of the MEXT scholarship, she completed her MFA at the Tokyo University of the Arts in 2023. Her graduation film Vision has earned 10 awards and has been screened at more than 40 international festivals. She is currently in the final year of her PhD in the Film and Media Studies Department at the Graduate School of Tokyo University of the Arts.
