The course targets source groups written in various handwriting styles of Ottoman Turkish. While the focus of Paleography I was on "document" groups, Paleography II will focus on the "register" (defter) groups produced by the state bureaucracy and will draw attention to the issues surrounding them. Thus, it is aimed to increase proficiency over Ottoman Turkish texts. A selected register series for each week will first be transcribed/decoded, and then its importance in terms of historiography will be addressed, allowing students to prepare assignments using the relevant registers as sources. It is supported by reading literature related to the subject every week.
