CULT 450 Issues in Journalism and Democracy
This course aims to provide an appreciation for the complexities of the role of media in a democracy. Lectures and class discussions will focus on such issues as press coverage of politics, conflict and violence and public policy issues, using examples from the United States, Türkiye and Europe. Students will examine the basic skills involved in reporting and writing a news story. They will also be required to report and write their own articles, which will be critiqued.
