ENS 209 is concerned with the basic and important principles in technical drawing, computer-aided design (CAD) and 3D solid modeling. Based on an understanding of engineering design, the course will discuss both hand drafting and the use of computers for 2D drafting and 3D solid modeling simultaneously. Topics include projection types, engineering drawings, hand drafting techniques, computer-aided technical drafting and design, orthographic projection and 2D drawings, 3D (pictorial) drawings, representation and manipulation of curves and surfaces, geometric models and data structures, solid modeling, dimensioning, dimensional tolerances, assembly modeling and analysis.
