Faculty Position in the History of the Ottoman World

The History Program at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Sabancı University invites applications for a full-time faculty position in the history of the Ottoman World. Area and period of specialization are open. We particularly welcome applications from scholars whose research engages the Ottoman world in comparative, transregional, or global perspectives. Candidates whose work connects Ottoman history with other early modern or modern polities are especially encouraged to apply. We are also interested in candidates with a regional focus whose work situates these regions within the broader trajectories of the Ottoman world.

The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to research excellence and a promising publication record. The postholder must have proficiency in Ottoman Turkish and, preferably, knowledge of one or more of the following languages: Greek, Armenian, Hebrew, Slavic languages, Arabic, Persian. The candidate will contribute to both undergraduate and graduate teaching, including core curriculum courses, thematic and methodological courses in history, and specialized seminars in their area of expertise. A commitment to supervising M.A. and Ph.D. theses and to active participation in the intellectual life of the university is also expected.

Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. in history or a related field by the time of appointment, which is expected to begin on September 1, 2026.
