This course is intended to introduce students with different backgrounds (ME,EE,CS) to power electronics and electrical drives. The course will discuss fundamental properties of switching power converters: semiconductor switches and their realizations, the topologies of switching matrix and its operation, dynamics and control of switching converters. In the electrical drives the operation of electrical machines and their control will be discussed in details. The DC and AC machines will be discussed. The fundamentals of motion control like robustness, disturbance rejection, compensation of nonidealities will be introduced. The laboratory assignment will enable students to design and build full system.
