MAT 505 Mechanical Behavior of Materials
Study of the deformation of solids under stress; emphasizing the role of imperfections, state of stress, temperature and strain rate. Stress, strain, and the basic concepts of deformation and fracture for metals, polymers, and ceramics; analysis of important mechanical properties such as plastic flow, creep, fatigue, fracture toughness, and rupture. Application of these principles to the design of improved materials and engineering structures. Emphasizes the relationships between microscopic mechanisms and macroscopic behavior of materials.
