Title: Semi-integral points on Markoff orbifold pairs (MATH)
Date/Time: 12 November 2025, 13:40
Location: FENS G035
Abstract: In this talk we shall discuss the status of local-global principles for semi-integral points on orbifold pairs of Markoff type. We will touch on weak approximation and strong approximation off a finite set of places. If time permits, we discuss how to count Markoff orbifold pairs that satisfy the semi-integral Hasse principle while the corresponding Markoff surface lacks integral points. This talk is based on a joint work with Justin Uhlemann.
Bio: Vladimir Mitankin is a number theorist specialising in Diophantine questions concerning the existence and the density of rational points and their variations on algebraic varieties from a quantitative point of view. After obtaining his PhD degree at the University of Bristol, he was subsequently a postdoc at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in Bonn and Leibniz University Hannover. Dr. Mitankin is currently a MSCA postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
