Instructor (Art History) Job Post

The Foundation Development Directorate at Sabancı University, Istanbul, invites applications for an Instructor position to teach introductory and intermediate-level Humanities courses in art history as part of the Major Works Course Pool. 

Major Works Courses are 200-level introductory courses (HUM 2XX) and 300-level more advanced courses (HUM 3XX) investigating the world’s leading works of literature, arts, and philosophy to help students develop a taste of their own. As a vital component of the Foundations Development Program (core-curriculum), Major Works Courses are designed to equip students not only with fundamental knowledge and understanding of the human experience but also with tools of independent and critical thinking.

Job Description 

Successful applicants are expected to teach at least one introductory level (200-coded) and one intermediate level (300-coded) Humanities courses (Major Works of Art) in the core-curriculum. Among other responsibilities are holding regular office hours, grading, preparing course materials, helping with course logistics, contributing to the Foundations Development Program initiatives, and attending meetings and orientations when necessary. 

General qualifications

  • PhD degree in art history and relevant fields of Humanities 
  • Coordination and good teamwork skills 
  • Fluent speaking and excellent writing skills in English 
  • Teaching experience in courses on Art History 
  • Candidates with past experience in common core courses and core-curriculum systems will be prioritized
