Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme 2025 @City University of Hong Kong

We are pleased to announce that the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) is now open for applications for 2025 entry. Established by the Research Grants Council (RGC) of the Hong Kong SAR Government, this prestigious Fellowship aims to attract outstanding students from around the world to pursue PhD studies in Hong Kong.
Why Apply?
Successful candidates of the Fellowship will receive:
- A monthly stipend of HK$28,100 (approximately US$3,600) for up to three years.
- An annual conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$14,000 (approximately US$1,790).
- For the fourth year of study, City University of Hong Kong (CityU) will provide a monthly studentship at the same level as the Fellowship.
- Fellowship recipients will also be awarded the Chow Yei Ching School of Graduate Studies Entrance Scholarship, which covers first-year full-time tuition fees and student hall accommodation expenses (worth HK$95,496 or approximately US$12,243).
Key Dates
- 1 December 2024 (by 12:00 noon Hong Kong Time): Applicants must submit an initial application to the RGC’s Online Application System (OAS) to obtain an RGC reference number.
- 1 December 2024 (by 23:59 Hong Kong Time): Applicants must submit a full application to CityU’s Online Admission System and quote the RGC reference number.
- April/May 2025: Announcement of Fellowship results by RGC.
- CityU will confirm admission offers in February 2025, even if candidates do not receive the Fellowship.

To apply for the Fellowship, candidates must first submit an initial application to the RGC’s Online Application System (www.rgc.edu.hk/hkphd) and then submit a full application to CityU (www.cityu.edu.hk/sgs/oas).
