TS 551 Turkish Studies and History: Debates and Topics
3 Credits
This course introduces students to the debates and
topics of contemporary research on Turkey and its
peoples that employ historical methodology and
sources. The course follows a broad chronology
from the major events of the late-Ottoman Empire to
contemporary issues in the Republic of Turkey. It
introduces major themes such as transition from
empire to nation-state, emergence and competition
among political networks, history of political
movements, migration, environment and economic
transformation and how historical methodology and
sources are utilized in the study of those themes.
