TS 521 Economic History of Turkey
3 Credits
This course aims to examine the transformation of the
Turkish economy from the 1800s to the present,
considering the political, social, and economic
dynamics that have emerged on a local and global
scale in this long period. The scope of the course
includes the following topics: the economic problems of
the late Ottoman Empire and the economic policies
followed by the central government; World War I and
the transition to the national economy; the new
economic model shaped by the Great Depression of
1929; the paradigm shift in economic policies in 1980s,
and the economic structure of 21st-century Turkey.
