ECON 526 Political Economy of Turkey

This course will examine the main economic policy
regimes and the underlying social, political and
institutional dynamics in recent Turkish history in the
context of a political-economic theoretical framework.
The topics covered will include: positive political theory;
political groups, interest groups and political influence;
the political economy of elections; populism and
redistributive politics; the statist era; the import
substitution era; Turkey during globalization; structural
reforms and political, social and institutional constraints.
