CONF 580 Conflicts in Contemporary Turkish Society 3 Credits
This course provides an overview of the conflicts that define the political consciousness of the contemporary Turkish society from the perspective of the conflict resolution field. These cases include the Cyprus, Kurdish and Armenian questions, Islam and Turkish Secularism, Modernization/ Europeanization and military-civilian relations. Main conflict frameworks are introduced that cover a wide range from personal to international levels of analysis. Students are encouraged to work in groups and asked to develop their own intervention models to each specific case.
