Political Science Seminar: Sara De Vido (Ca' Foscari University & VIU)

Sara De Vido is full professor of international law at Ca’ Foscari university of Venice, Italy, and affiliate to the Manchester International Law Centre, UK. She is delegate of the rector for gender equality and member of the academic council of Venice International University. She has extensively written on international human rights law, in particular women’s rights and countering violence against women at the international and European level. She is an expert at European level of the Council of Europe Istanbul Convention. She co-edited, along with Micaela Frulli, the first commentary on the Istanbul Convention (Elgar Publishing, 2023). She is also principal investigator of a NextGenerationEU project on the topic Gendering international legal responses to chronic emergencies, and of a Jean Monnet module, called “Working on non human animals law and rights in the EU” (WHALE). Among her publications, the book “Violence against women’s health in international law” (Manchester University Press, 2020). She serves as legal expert for the European Commission for the EU network on preventing gender-based violence and domestic violence, and is writing a report on the legal implications of the accession by the EU to the Istanbul Convention (forthcoming in November 2024).
