This course is mainly an exercise in listening, reading and writing on a regular basis. The lectures that will be offered by faculty members will introduce the students to new venues in Political Science. The students will not only be exposed to various research areas in the field towards which they may direct their future thesis work, but will also get in the habit of writing short concise essays. This course will be offered jointly by the Political Science faculty members in cooperation with Sabanci University's Academic Writing Center.(A required course for Political Science PhD. Students.)

- by the end of the course, the students -should be able to formulate a PhD thesis topic -should have in hand a PhD thesis proposal which is to contain a statement of the research topic, a review of the relevant academic literature and a desciption of the way the student proposes to conduct reseach on the chosen topic

1. Develop and deepen the current and advanced knowledge in the field with original thought and/or research and come up with innovative definitions based on Master's degree qualifications 5
