CONTENT
OBJECTIVE
This course will explore the fundamental themes from economics of health and health care sector and policies, which is a growing field of applied microeconomics. Throughout the course, we will introduce microeconomic models and tools to analyze individuals' health behavior and how health care sector functions. We will also discuss government's role in health care and different health care systems in developed and developing countries. By the end of this course, students should be able to think critically about health-related issues.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Upon completion of the course students are expected to be able to: 1) understand the issues about social and economic relevance of health services in society 2) identify market and non-market settings in health sector 3) develop models to analyze health industry 4) evaluate benefits and costs of public policies and propose alternative solutions 5) discuss regulation and regulatory framework in health industry.
