CONTENT

Individual and social choice, uncertainty; core and competitive equilibrium; fundamental theorems of economics; partial equilibrium, cost-benefit analysis; topics in economics of information, dynamic competition, auction theory; topics in cooperative microeconomics network economics; topics in mechanism design

OBJECTIVE

The goal of this course is to introduce students to, and obtain their acquaintance with the formal methods of microeconomics theory. This is a serious course in which students ought to learn to understand microeconomics and its related fields. We are going to derive most of the results from primitives, and will not take any formulae as given. Moreover, we will associate what we have learned with practical applications.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Demonstrate a broad knowledge of rationality and analysis of decision-making under behavioral aspects in microeconomic theory.
  • Demonstrate a broad knowledge of allocations of scarce resources among rational decision-makers in pure exchange economies.
  • Demonstrate a broad knowledge of the price mechanism, general equilibrium theory, and its welfare properties in pure exchange economies.
  • Learn the introductory standards to attend advanced specialized courses in economic theory such as decision theory, dynamic general equilibrium theory and macroeconomics, game theory, and mechanism design.
