CONTENT

This course will serve as an introduction to the new understanding of microbial activities and bacterial diversity; the major groups of microorganisms structure, cultivation and pathogenecity of bacteria and viruses; genetic and metabolic capabilities of microorganisms in their natural habitats and microbial ecology. Laboratory experiments will deal with isolation, cultivation and enrichment of diverse microorganisms.

OBJECTIVE

Objective of the course is to give a notion in basic microbiological systems and techniques

LEARNING OUTCOME

Have general idea about microbial taxonomy, bacterial diversity and evolution.
Clearly differentiate between prokaryotic cells and eukaryotic cells.
Define stages of microbial growth.
Define characteristics of viruses,differentiate between prokarytic and eukaryotic viruses.
Define general characteristics of archea domain.
Identify the phylogenetic relations between prokaryotes.
Have clear knowledge about different phylum of bacteria in the phylogenetic classification
Have a general idea about protists and fungi characteristics.
