CONTENT

The shape and properties of surface. Friction. Boundary lubrication. Hydrodynamic lubrication. Elastohydrodynamic lubrication. Corrosion chemistry and protections.

OBJECTIVE

To teach fundementals of Tribology, lubrication theory and applications; to introduce engineering surfaces, hertzian contact, friction and wear models

LEARNING OUTCOME

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
- define the fundamentals of Tribology; lubrication and wear
- describe theory behind the lubrication
- design for common hydrostatic and hydrodynamic bearings
- identify common theories for friction and wear
