CONTENT
OBJECTIVE
GOALS OF THE COURSE:
- Introduce basic microeconomic and statistical tools that are used in health economics to
analyze the unique characteristics of supply and demand of health care.
- Endow students with the ability to design effective public policies by providing an
understanding of economic incentives of various players in the health care sector
including patients, doctors, hospitals, government, and insurance companies.
- Introduce basic tools in Pharmacoeconomic analysis and various reimbursement policies.
- Endow students with the knowledge of various health care systems.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Upon completion of the course students are expected to be able to: 1) understand the issues about social and economic relevance of health services in society 2) identify market and non-market settings in health sector 3) develop models to analyze health industry 4) evaluate benefits and costs of public policies and propose alternative solutions 5) discuss regulation and regulatory framework in health industry.
