OBJECTIVE

The purpose of this course is to review the modern theory of industrial organization and competition policy. The main topics include monopoly, price discrimination, oligopoly and collusion, vertical restraints, mergers, predatory conduct, network economics, and introduction to competition policy in the EU and Turkey

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • On completion of the course, students are expected to a) analyze and write a report on the cases handled by the Competition Authority of Turkey by combining their theoretical knowledge with the real life issues regarding the case while trying to identify the anti-competitive action the defendants have (allegedly) conducted, b) analyze the decision process of firm behavior under less than competitive conditions, c) analyze the many theoretical and practical issues regarding the regulation of markets and the implementation of competition policy, d) compare the descriptions of the EU and Turkish regulatory and antitrust policymaking systems.
