UN Joint Program
"Promoting and Protecting Women's and Girls' Human Rights"
The UN Joint Program "Promoting and Protecting Women's and Girls' Human Rights", is a project of social improvement and human development in which all of the United Nations Institutions in Turkey, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Hacı Ömer Sabancı Foundation (Sabancı Foundation) and Sabancı University have been contributing. This project aims at struggling against the existing gender inequality by bringing together the local administration, public institutions, private sector and non-governmental organizations in a collective action program. The project intends to make gender equality be realized through the increase in the level of gender consciousness in public, local decision makers and non-governmental organizations, both in local and national levels.
This project, aiming at protecting women's and girls' human rights and increasing the social consciousness, has been implemented in six pilot provinces; Izmir, Kars, Nevşehir, Şanlıurfa, Trabzon and Van, since December 2005.
In June 2006, December 2006, May and November 2007; work that have been done and the planned activities were shared in the six-monthly-evaluation-meetings, which were held with the contribution of all the participants.
