Greek politician and statesman; former foreign minister (under Prime Minister Simitis) who is generally recognized as having contributed strongly to ushering in a comprehensive thaw between Greece and Turkey, and to promoting normal, friendly relations between the two countries; current leader of PASOK in opposition. If he were to give a commencement speech, or Closing Lecture, at Sabancı University (or indeed any other Turkish university), this would be recognized as a move or gesture of major significance.
