Former provost of Princeton University. She is a professor of
politics by training, and the author of important books on human
values, identity problems, and especially democratic theory,
including democratic education. She has been the president of
the American Society for Political and Legal Philosophy.
Following upon her great success as provost at Princeton, she
has been elected president of the University of Pennsylvania. In
a commencement talk (Closing Lecture) context, she might be
expected to bring a new critical, discursive consciousness to
bear on the totality and the intersections of such concepts as
democracy, universities, human rights, identity questions, and
current politics. |
