International Year of Astronomy 2009

2009 marks the 400th anniversary of the first use of an astronomical telescope by Galileo Galilei, and has been endorsed by International Astronomical Union, UNESCO and the UNITED NATIONS as The International Year of Astronomy 2009 (IYA2009) . Activities coordinated by the Turkish Astronomical Society (TAD) have been going on all over Turkey, aimed at  discovering the Universe through the day- and night-time sky. Sabancı faculty members Dr. Ali Alpar (TAD President), Dr. Emrah Kalemci (TAD Executive Committee Member) and Dr. Ersin Göğüş actively involve in IYA2009 activities.
