Istanbul Policy Center (IPC) is an independent policy research institute with global outreach. The mission of the Center is to foster academic research in social sciences and its application to policy making. We are firmly committed to providing decision-makers, opinion leaders, academics, and general public with innovative and objective analyses in key domestic and foreign policy issues. IPC has expertise in a wide range of areas, including -but not exhaustive to- Turkey / EU / U.S. relations, education, climate change, current trends of political and social transformation in Turkey, as well as the impact of civil society and local governance on this metamorphosis.
The Center’s value-added contribution to academia and public policy sector stems from its ability to track these developments closely and offer insightful evaluations on their meaning for Turkey’s global aspirations in a rapidly-integrating world. Furthermore, IPC stands out from many of its peers with its exceptional access to intellectual capital and vast reserves of scientific knowledge at Sabancı University. IPC thus offers policy makers, academics and young researchers a unique platform where sound academic research in social sciences shapes hands-on policy work.
Companies in Turkey and across the world seek to mine big data and improve their processes, customer relations and other aspects. From private companies to public institutions, the importance of data analytics becomes more appreciated as the size of the data grows. With the increase in data, the development of techniques that will make use and sense of big data in scientific research gains importance and become predominant in Computer and Industrial Engineering research endeavors.
The reason behind the foundation of CEDA was to provide interdisciplinary solutions to commercial and scientific needs in big data mining, and conduct scientific research that could play a large role in overall research efforts. CEDA will collect big data-related research under one roof, which will better disseminate the studies of researchers of different disciplines on this subject, and enhance cooperation among them. CEDA will contribute to increasing knowledge about data analytics and big data through seminars and publications.
CEDA and the Sabancı University Master's in Data Analytics Program will have a synergistic presence in education and research about data analytics. Furthermore, the Center aims to provide support and knowledge to researchers, faculty as well as undergraduate and graduate students about working with big data thanks to its infrastructure and the contributions of postdoctorate researchers and support personnel.
Students and researchers who have gone beyond the theoretical and acquired working knowledge of the most advanced computer technologies (parallel programming, big data infrastructure, analysis of big data, high-performance computing) will be much better prepared for their work and find jobs more easily.
Center of Excellence in Finance (CEF) at Sabanci University is established to serve as a bridge between academia, finance industry and real sector. We connect academicians, practitioners, and investment community and transform fundamental knowledge into applicable practices in real life.
CEF is established under Sabanci University which is an AACSB-accredited and internationally recognized institution that is recently placed among the top 13 universities in the world under 50 years old by Times Higher Education.
CEF serves as a medium for dialogue between academia, industry and policy-making institutions. Board members of the center include globally distinguished individuals from these three circles.
The center aims to address challenges in functional surfaces and interfaces through the usage of micron- and submicron sized systems exploiting the tools of medicine/molecular biology, material science, nano technology, nano/microfluidics and power generation.
Activities of the center require an in-depth understanding of molecular biology, genetics and biochemistry of diseases, omics approaches, clinical collaborations, chemistry and material fundamentals, surface and interface interactions, power generation in small scale along with targeted device design.
Research and development in EFSUN Center of Excellence consists of interdependent, collaborative, interactive and complementary activities of researchers who are world-class experts in their respective fields.
The purpose of the Gender and Women's Studies Research and Application Center is to gather all the Sabancı University members who are interested in gender and women’s studies in a common platform of discussion and collaboration. The diverse research and activities being conducted in Sabancı University can thus be shared more extensively and can gain increased visibility. This forum is intended not only to promote the widespread recognition and increased effectiveness of existing research and activities, but also allows interdisciplinary collaboration, as well as the initiation and support of new projects in the gender and women’s studies fields.
Istanbul International Centre for Energy and Climate (IICEC) is a future-oriented independent research and policy center designed to conduct objective, high-quality economic and policy studies in energy and climate. IICEC efforts will help the development of solutions to a sustainable energy future for the region and the world.
Sabancı University Nanotechnology Research and Application Center (SU-NUM), is developed with approximately 25 million Euros provided by the State Planning Organization and Sabancı Foundation and became operational in July 2011. The Center provides valuable additional capabilities to the existing research infrastructure of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences of Sabancı University. With a contributing team of 40 faculty members, about 40 post-doctoral researchers, and hundreds of Ph.D. students, the Center is engaged in highly effective multidisciplinary research programs, bringing together researchers with expertise spanning advanced materials, basic sciences, and nano-engineering, to address applications in electronics, photonics, healthcare, construction, the environment, agriculture and packaging industries.
Within the scope of this collaborative research environment, a major goal is to expedite the development of novel technologies and advanced products to address the needs of local and global technology leaders. The Center is encouraging collaboration with industry, other universities and research institutions to further hone the skills of budding research specialists, which are sought in several advanced technology areas relevant to the interests of Turkey.
Corporate Governance Forum of Turkey (CGFT) has been founded on March 1st, 2003 as a joint initiative of Turkish Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association (TÜSİAD) and Sabancı University and undertook a work program as such until the end of 2004. Most important objective of the work program was to create awareness on the importance of Corporate Governance - an objective largely achieved thanks to the local and international developments, efforts of the Forum and restructuring reforms in the financial sector. Forum has acknowledged that the best way to contribute to the reform process was to focus on knowledge creation through scientific research. Today, CGFT continues its' work as an interdisciplinary academic initiative hosted by the Faculty of Management at Sabancı University.
Forum is aware of the role of Corporate Governance in economic development and social welfare. Forum's mission is to contribute to the improvement of corporate governance framework and practices through scientific research, support the policy development process by active engagement, encourage and facilitate the dialogue between academicians and practitioners, and disseminate research.
