Circulation & Borrowing

 

Faculty Members can borrow:

  • 60 books for 60 days, 
  • 5 general multimedia for 7 days, 
  • 5 bounded serials for 7 days,
  • slides as many as requested for 7 days;

and unless these information resources are requested by others, only books can be renewed unlimited times, slides can be renewed two times, multimedia can be renewed one time for the same the period

Undergradate and Exchange Students can borrow:

  • 60 books for 60 days, 
  • 5 multimedia for 7 days, 
  • 2 bounded serials for 7 days

and unless these information resources are requested by others, only books can be renewed unlimited times, slides can be renewed two times, multimedia can be renewed one time for the same the period.

Graduate Students can borrow:

  • 60 books for 60 days,
  • 5 multimedia for 7 days,
  • 5 bounded serials for 7 days

and unless these information resources are requested by others, only books can be renewed unlimited times, multimedia can be renewed one time for the same the period.

Administrative Staff can borrow:

  • 60 books for 60 days,
  • 5 multimedia for 7 days,
  • 2 bounded serials for 7 days,

and unless these information resources are requested by others, books can be renewed unlimited times multimedia can be renewed one time for the same the period.

Alumni and Retired can borrow:

Alumni and Retired, who have paid their membership fees in order to utilize the lending services, may:

  • 2 books for 30 days,
  • 1 multimedia for 3 days

and unless they are requested by others, books can be renewed once again for the same period.

Trade and Industrial Companies (Except Packet 1) can borrow:

  • 6 books for 30 days,

and unless they are requested by others, they can be renewed once again for the same period.

Other Universities' Members (For Faculty Members Only) can borrow:

  • 2 books for 15 days,

and unless they are requested by others, books can be renewed once again for the same period.

 

  • For information resources, a reminder is sent to the user a week before the due date. Fine processes are applied to those which are returned later than the due date, in compliance with "Overdue Fines Document", and borrowing services shall not be available until the fine is paid. Overdue fines are not applied to periods when the Information Center is closed. 
  • Processes related to the renewal of borrowed items and reserving information resources can be done over the web site.
  • "Reference Collection". "Serials Collection", “Rare Collection” and newspapers can be used within the Information Center only:
  • The resources in the"Student Reserve Collection" can be checked out by the faculty member who requested the item for the Collection and by the students only.
  • Off-campus access is restricted by license agreements and a service for Sabancı University Members (SU students, full time faculty and staff) to connect to Information Center electronic resources from off campus site. External users (Walk-in users) of the Information Center and project specialists (who work on SU projects temporarily) are not authorized users and do not have the right access to online databases, periodicals, e-books and slides subscribed by Information Center.
  • Recall: Resources can be recalled for the following conditions. Urgently required books are recalled as mentioned below. If the book is borrowed for more than 2 weeks, the book must be returned at the latest 1 week after the recall e-mail is sent. If the book is borrowed for less than 2 weeks the book must be returned at the latest 10 days after the recall e-mail is sent. In case of a late return, penalties occur and hold is placed on the user’s account. And the user can not check out any Information Center resource unless the fines are paid. Furthermore, if the user is a student he/she can not make any course registrations, can not take any transcripts or the necessary documents for graduation. 
  • Student Reserve Collection: Borrowed items can be recalled before due date, if any other user requires for a short period of time, for adding to the reserve, for uses of the academic personel on special occasions, and for mass shows that are arranged by the student clubs. In case of a late return, penalties occur and if the item is not returned in the mentioned period of time, hold is placed on the user’s account. And the user can not check out any Information Center resource unless the fines are paid. Furthermore, if the user is a student he/she can not make any course registrations, and can not take any transcripts or the necessary documents for graduation. As for the reserve collection, recalls that are made before the beginning of the term must be returned in 10 days. Recalls that are made during the term must be returned in 3 days. Fines occur according to "The Late Return Policy" for the unreturned information resources.
  • For information resources that are lost or damaged, fine processes are applied in accordance with the "Document for Lost and Damaged Information Resources", and borrowing services shall not be available until these processes are completed. Upon request, the possession of the damaged item may be given to the user.
  • Notices: In order to see notice emails which are interested in checked out resources, please check them on SPAM email box.
  • Overdue and lost items, processing, membership or ILL fees can be payable to this account:

  • Information resources that are not returned within 60 days after the due date are considered as "lost". 
  • Administration is informed of information resources that are claimed to be returned but not found in their places. The user cannot utilize the borrowing services until the final decision of Administration.
  • Limits and periods for borrowing, fines for overdues and rules for lost or damaged information resources are determined by the "Information Center Advisory Board" before the first day of each year, and applied upon the approval of the President.
